MEET AMANDA

Amanda Anderson is a dedicated public servant, community advocate, and proven leader committed to the growth and well-being of the Town of Capitol Heights. As a member of the Town Council, she has worked to improve public safety, expand community resources, and help build a cleaner, safer, and more connected town. Amanda believes effective leadership begins with listening to and engaging residents, and she remains focused on serving with compassion and action.

Known for her hands-on, people-centered approach, Amanda has helped lead initiatives that directly support families and improve quality of life throughout the Town. Her work has included organizing a weekly grocery giveaway serving more than 100 families each week for the past three years, supporting community clean-up efforts, expanding youth opportunities through scholarships and internships, promoting programs and events for seniors, and building strong partnerships with residents, nonprofits, faith communities, and public agencies. She is committed to helping create a town where residents feel seen, heard, valued, and supported.

In addition to her public service, Amanda brings strong professional experience in executive administration, communications, operations, and community engagement. She knows how to turn vision into action, manage complex efforts, and bring people together around shared goals. She understands the importance of strategic planning and is committed to helping the Town communicate more effectively and move forward with a clear vision for progress.

Amanda Anderson is running for reelection because she believes Capitol Heights deserves leadership that is responsive, transparent, and rooted in the needs of the people.

MEET ANITA

Anita Anderson is a faith-centered leader and longtime Capitol Heights resident who has proudly called the town home since 1990. With a heart for service and a deep commitment to community, she has dedicated herself to helping make Capitol Heights a safer, stronger, and more supportive place for residents of every generation.

A mother of three and grandmother of four, Anita cares deeply about creating a town where families can flourish, seniors are respected, and young people are equipped to succeed. She has been a strong advocate for public safety, infrastructure improvements, employment opportunities, and programs that uplift both youth and seniors.

In addition to her service on the Town Council, Anita brings professional experience in public service through her work with the Department of Homeland Security. Her leadership is shaped by integrity, compassion, and a practical understanding of what it takes to serve a community well.

Anita’s commitment to service extends beyond elected office. She has a long history of community involvement, including serving as the first PTA President of William Hall Elementary School and volunteering with DC General Hospital’s Boarder Baby Project. A proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and First Baptist Church of Glenarden, she continues to lead with faith, purpose, and a strong belief in the power of community.

Anita Anderson remains committed to serving, protecting, and uplifting the residents of Capitol Heights while helping build a more united and hopeful future for the town.

RECORD OF ACTION

We’ve proven ourselves to be leaders who take action, lead with heart, and put the needs of our community first. We ask for your vote so we can continue building a better Town of Capitol Heights for EVERYONE.

Explore the priorities shaping our vision for the Town and our record of action that demonstrates commitment to getting results for residents. 

  • We believe every resident should live, work, and play with peace of mind. Safety within the Town will always be top priority.

    Actions taken to support public safety:

    • Participated in ride-alongs with local law enforcement

    • Updates to town codes and ordinances related to safety

    • Purchase of new, properly equipped police vehicles

    • Advocated for community-policing approaches

    • Installation of blinking stop signs within the town

    • Installation of surveillance cameras

    • “Safeguarding Our Children” panel discussion and safety forum

  • We must take greater measures to ensure our neighborhoods are clean, welcoming, and a source of pride for every resident.

    Actions taken to support town beautification:

    • Code-enforcement ride-alongs to better understand and address neighborhood concerns

    • Improved and properly placed signage throughout the town

    • Support of Public Works clean-up efforts and Community Clean-Up Days

    • Responded to resident concerns about illegal dumping

    • Served on the Sustainable Maryland Green Team

    • Secured funding for a feasibility study addressing drainage along Capitol Heights Boulevard

    • Finalizing plans for a community mural with PGHAC

  • We support development and economic decisions that create opportunity and protect the taxpayer dollar. Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable. 

    Actions taken to support transparent economic development:

    • Supported projects aimed at improving the town’s economic well-being, including Town Hall and Police Department renovations

    • Advocated for the implementation of the 20743 Coalition and currently serve on its Joint Planning Committee

    • Previously served on the Planning and Economic Development Committee (2018-2021)

    • Fights for transparency and in municipal finances for resident accountability

    • Raises concerns and finds solutions about discrepancies when identified

  • We commit to ensuring that both our youth and our senior citizens are seen, supported, and meaningfully invested in.  

    Actions taken to support youth and seniors:

    • Created summer workforce program for teenage residents

    • Implemented job-readiness program offering drone-operation licensure for young adults ages 16–21

    • Signed off hundreds of hours for youth volunteers completing community service hours

    • Back-to-school community events

    • Partnered with NOBLE and the Capitol Heights Police Department to nominate youth for new bicycles

    • Drone-flying program for elementary school students

    • Facilitated an off-site job search program at Town Hall through Employ Prince George’s

    • Scholarship program for graduating high school seniors

    • Established Love-A-Senior Day in the Town of Capitol Heights

    • Organized the first Pamper-A-Senior event offering complimentary services for senior residents

  • We will continue to lead initiatives that ensure access to healthy food, resources, and advocacy for those in need.

    Actions taken to support community care:

    • Installed a weekly grocery giveaway at Town Hall serving over 100 families each week, going three-years strong

    • Hosted yearly coat and clothing drives

    • Organized a farmers market and community health fair

    • Domestic-violence discussion panel and community advocacy event

  • We recognize that resident engagement is key to a thriving community. We will ensure to be inclusive of diverse voices and needs..

    Actions taken to support resident engagement:

    • Improvements to the town website and social-media communication

    • Community celebrations such as Hispanic Heritage Month and Black History Month

    • Partnerships with nonprofit and faith-based organizations

    • Built a strong network of resident volunteers supporting community initiatives

    • Spanish translation for Town communications to uphold inclusivity
